Week Seven

As many of you know, I was an only child growing up until my father remarried when I was in Middle School. To those who have siblings, I am sure this would appear strange and very lonely. However, just like anything else, there were specific challenges and opportunities that were presented. One positive thing is that I had no choice but to be creative. Since I didn't have a brother or sister to annoy, I had to use my imagination for fun games to play. I also loved being social and making new friends outside of the home. Although, I think it was my love for animals that kept me entertained most of the time.

I have always loved animals! Growing up I had 2 dogs, 2 cats, 4 turtles, 3 hamsters, 1 guinea pig, and a countless number of fish. All of them held a special place in my heart because they in a sense were my playmates when I was at home. Due to this fact, I am a huge advocate for animals. I believe that they make great companions and it is our responsibility to take care of our furry friends. The Bible even states, "A righteous man cares for the needs of his animals..." (Proverbs 12:10). Genesis also speaks on the subject multiple times about how we are to care for them.

So, why  am I on my soap box on animal cruelty and care? It is because God presented an opportunity this week to take care of a sweet little kitty. On probably one of the coldest nights of the year, we heard meowing coming from our front porch. This little guy was not in the best shape because he had been dropped off and it looked like he had not eaten for weeks. This, of course, broke my heart and we decided to feed him and foster him in our garage until we could find him a proper home.
After many calls, the Pulaski county animal shelter decided to take this sweet little guy in and assured us that they would be able to find him a home. However, there are a lot of dogs and cats that aren't so lucky. Animal shelters are often packed to capacity and they have limited funding, resources, and people willing to adopt. I believe that we should all do our part, not only to adopt if we have a home, but to help out our local animal shelters provide for these animals. They requested that any puppy food or kitten food that is provided is greatly appreciated. You can also call ahead of time to see if they need anything specifically.
