Operation Inasmuch

Regrettably,  it has been a little while since I last blogged , but worry not. :) Pretty Feet has still been on my mind and God has been continuously leading me to projects that need to be done. Since my last post, I decided to go back to work on a part time basis, so time for blogging has slipped my mind. However, the conviction to being open to spreading God's love during my daily routine has not. God has been so good and has chosen me as his vessel on many occasions to bless others. He daily reminds me to just be open and listen in a busy, hectic life.

I will give you a couple examples of how God has been moving recently in my life. In my last post, I talked about how our church was going to participate in Operation Inasmuch, a day long mission blitz to impact our community. This was a great opportunity  to reach out to others in a variety of creative ways. I was blessed to be able to lead a small group of people to two nursing homes that afternoon. One in which was for people who were either homeless or severely mentally handicapped.

I believe God really used our group that afternoon and we hope to be able to go back in the near future. It was pure joy to be able to sing, pray, and deliver goodies to people who desperately desired companionship. To be able to observe the residents worship was a true blessing. I can most definitely say that some of the testimonies they shared about how Jesus has changed their lives made a definite impact on mine.

On another occasion, I was moved by the strength and courage of a mother I saw in the Dollar Store one evening. She had her head wrapped with a bandana from what appeared to be from treatment of cancer. Although it was apparent she was very sick, she continued to love and encourage her children throughout her shopping experience. I was moved. God laid it upon my heart to purchase a rose from the front of the store and offer encouragement and prayer to this young woman.

Although it was in my nature to have the cashier hand it to her as she purchased her items, God was telling me otherwise. He wanted me to approach her and let her know personally that she wasn't alone and trust in a God who heals! I could tell she was very appreciative and encouraged in how the Lord put it upon my heart to share His love for her! How great it is to be God's hands and feet!

I was also very encouraged by the story of my mother who shared with me how God convicted her to do a project last week. As she was purchasing a cheeseburger at McDonald's, a young mother of 5 shared with her a little bit about her life, but joyfully served my mother despite the current hardships in her life. My mother was so moved in her ability to happily give 100% to her job that she called the cooperate office to brag about what a great employee she was. They said that they would respond to her call and let the manager know about her excellent customer service.

This may seem like a small deed, but you never know how that could impact her life or possibly lead to a promotion. I strongly feel that we not live our lives like zombies, walking aimlessly, and selfishly devouring everything in our paths. We need to be conscience of our surroundings and take time to listen to how God wants to use us each minute of every day. So Christian, please stop. Listen. Let God use you today!

Week 13

This week, I have been thinking a lot about the one day mission's blitz our church is going to participate in next week called "Operation Inasmuch". We are pretty excited about serving our community in this way. With 16 groups going out, we have over 150 people signed up to reach people in need. We have people participating in a variety of activities ranging from, hospital and nursing home ministry, visiting and serving shut-ins, paying for people's laundry,  delivering firewood, providing for needy children in our schools, and paying for people food at local fast food chains.

In preparation for these ministries, I decided to jump start it a little early. As I was getting a coke in the McDonald's drive thru on Saturday (I don't know why, but McDonald's coke tastes so much better than any other), I decided to pay for the man's meal behind me. It was funny to watch his expression as the worker handed him a "Pretty Feet" slip that told him his meal was paid for. Just a very small gesture of what true Christianity is supposed be.

Be sure to read next week's blog on all the amazing testimonies I expect to occur of how God moved in the life of our community. I know God will bless our church's efforts!!

Week 11 and 12

These past two weeks, I have had a very heavy heart for the tornado victims about 40 miles away in West Liberty. The pictures and testimonies of those lucky enough to survive would make anyone think about how blessed they are. Many people lost their homes, all of their possessions, places of employment, schools, and loved ones! It truly was one of the worst storms I have ever experienced to date, and all we had was wind and some hail damage.

Since the tornadoes were extremely close to home for us, it presented a lot of opportunities to serve for the "Pretty Feet Project". Many of our church members stepped out of their box of comfort and received training to go into the trenches. Some got down and dirty in clean up, while others served by using this as an opportunity to counsel and share the love of Christ! It truly has been a great week of service for our church.

Because of their testimonies of faith, I was lead to pray and see how I could help. One faithful member at our church, Mike Bastin, even shared that baby items were desperately needed at the time. Being a new parent, this seemed like a great project for me! I also knew that our church would be willing to step up to the challenge, so I decided to help lead a baby item drive. I was so happy to see all of the people who were willing to contribute to this cause!!

This week, I also decided to help a couple of ladies from our church who personally felt lead to start their own ministry. Since they are gifted in sowing, which I am not, they wanted to gather fabric to sow  and monogram blankets for anyone who lost their homes. What a wonderful way to show that you care! I can't wait to see all of the beautiful work they do for people that they don't even know!! It is truly wonderful to be God's hands and feet!!
